Description
The Old Town Hall, dated 1823, is a former town hall located on the north-west side of High Street. It is a two-storey building with a stuccoed exterior. The ground floor features an arcade of five round arches, each with keystones and imposts, and is glazed. Above this, there is a wide band at the first-floor level, which has five tall sash windows with glazing bars and cills. The band ends in a parapet that is ramped up at the ends and rises at the centre to accommodate a rectangular panel displaying the town's coat of arms and the date. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and at one end, there is a square wooden bell turret that is domed and topped with a ball finial. The Old Town Hall is part of a group of listed buildings along High Street, extending up to and including No 118.
