Description
Nos 1 to 3 Hill Street is a late 16th-century building. The ground floor is constructed of brick, while the upper part features a timber frame with close-set studding. The building has a single tiled roof with gable ends, and one end is tile-hung. It stands two storeys tall and has three windows on the first floor, which include horizontally sliding sashes with glazing bars. The right-hand window is wider and set in a heavy moulded projecting frame, while the left-hand window is a blocked three-light window with its original frame.
On the ground floor, there is a central two-light sash window with modern restored frames, a small restored 19th-century shop window with glazing bars on the left, and a central glazed door. To the right, there is a restored small 19th-century shop of fixed-light type with glazing bars. The entrance features a modern oak door. The stone end wall has a large sandstone chimney breast with a brick stack, and a sash window is located at the side, topped with a stone cornice.
Inside, there is a wide Tudor arched stone fireplace and a roof truss that includes collar beams and wind braces.
