Description

The Lodge at Glebelands and the adjoining wall were built around 1897 by Sir Ernest Newton. The lodge is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a tiled roof. It has an L-shaped plan with a projecting gable on the southwest side and a small hipped extension on the northeast. The building is one and a half storeys tall, with one chimney on the ridge and another projecting from the right-hand wall, both with diamond-shaped shafts. The windows are casement style with square leads and stone mullions.

On the entrance front, there is a gabled bay on the right that has three-stage stone corbels at both corners. The upper level features a three-light casement window, while the ground floor has a canted bay with a four-light casement and two-light casements on the returns. To the left, there is a one-storey section with a roof that slopes down to a low level, which includes a glazed 20th-century entrance door with sidelights in the angle, and a four-light casement window to the left.

The adjoining wall on the southeast side dates from the 19th century and was formerly used to enclose the kitchen garden of Glebelands, which is listed separately. The wall is approximately one and a half metres high and 35 bays long, with five bays on the northwest return. It features a segmental head to a planked door located in the first bay at the southern end.
