Description

This is a late 15th-century cottage which has been altered in the 18th century and extended in the 20th century. The external walls are rendered brick over a timber frame, and the roof is tiled, hipped, with a 20th-century dormer featuring leaded casements and a rooflight. A chimney sits on the ridge, and another breaks through the eaves. The cottage is two storeys high with an attic. The front of the building has 18th-century Yorkshire sash windows with small panes on the upper floor, along with two 19th-century two-light casements with similarly small panes on the ground floor. Two angular bays with three- and two-light casements flank the ground floor, each with a hipped roof. A 20th-century entrance door is set beneath a tiled gabled porch, and there’s a 20th-century iron two-light casement to the left. A further early 20th-century angular bay, incorporating leaded casements, false timberwork, and pebbledashed infill, is present on the road front. Inside, much of the timber frame is exposed, including large timbers, jowl posts, and a queen strut roof with a redundant crown post. A 20th-century extension is located at the rear. The building has group value.
