Description

The Bull is an inn that now operates as a public house, dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th century and later. The building features a timber frame that has been faced with brick. It has a dentil course along part of the parapet and old tiled hipped roofs. The structure is L-shaped, consisting of two framed bays, and has two storeys plus cellars.

On the Church Street front, there is a large 17th-century brick chimney on the right side, which has a rectangular base, an offset head, and two diagonal shafts with offset heads. To the left of the chimney, there are two upper sash windows with altered glazing, and on the ground floor, there are two doors. The right-hand door is half-glazed and has a board pediment hood supported by cut brackets, while the left-hand door features an architrave surround, a frieze, brackets, and a cornice hood. To the left of this, there is a two-storey half-octagonal bay with a brick parapet. The upper part of this bay has false timber framing with painted infilling, a frieze, and a small cornice, along with three sash windows that have glazing bars—three panes in the front and two panes on the sides.

On the High Street front, there is a similar parapet. To the left, there is a two-storey angular bay, and to the right, a one-storey angular bay at first-floor level on cut brackets, which has sashes with glazing bars. Below this, there are two coupled sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor, and a central door.

Inside, the building features two large inglenook fireplaces and good quality early timber framing that is exposed on both the ground and first floors.
