Description

Old Rectory Cottage is a late 16th-century cottage located on Fleet Hill in Finchampstead, with 20th-century extensions and alterations. The structure is timber-framed with painted brick infill and features an old tile roof, which is half-hipped and extends down over a lean-to section on the west side. The layout is L-shaped, comprising two framed bays with gables facing north, south, and west. A 20th-century extension, designed to resemble timber framing, is present on the west side. The cottage has two storeys, with a chimney on the ridge. Windows are irregular 20th-century leaded casements. The front of the cottage has a gable to the left and a bay to the right, containing a 20th-century entrance door under a hipped porch, a two-light casement above the door, and a similar casement on the ground floor to the right. A small, one-story 20th-century extension with a hipped tile roof is at the right-hand end. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with brick armrests and spice recesses. The ground floor retains beams and joists with chamfers and run-out stops. The first floor reveals the timber frame with queen post trusses.
