Description
Folly Farm is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the late 18th century and around 1930. The building features a combination of timber framing with painted brick infill and brick construction, topped by an old tile gabled roof that is half hipped at the rear of the 17th-century section. It is designed in an L-shape with two framed extensions at the back, and it has two storeys and a cellar.
The front of the house has six bays, although it was originally three bays wide. Notable architectural details include a brick dentilled eaves course and sash windows with glazing bars. There are four double-height canted bays with dentilled eaves extending around them in wood. A sash window is located between the third and fourth bays, and centrally below this is a two-panelled door, which is topped with a flat hood featuring a planked soffit, a dentilled frieze, and large carved brackets.
Inside, the timber frame is exposed in the rear section of the 17th-century part, which also contains a large fireplace and a bread oven, although the latter is now covered.
