Description
The Garden Gate and Walls, located approximately 75 metres north-west of the stable block at Swallowfield Park, is a Grade II listed structure. This late 17th-century gate, attributed to Talman stone, features a doorway that now serves as a garden gate. It is adorned with an architrave flanked by pilasters decorated with garlands, and a broken segmental pediment that includes swags and drapes supported by carved brackets. The adjoining walls date from the 18th and early 19th centuries, constructed of brick and standing about 4 metres high with a weathered top. The return section on the north-east side has a plinth and culminates in an elliptical curved top with a dentil course. It also includes three square recesses that are panelled at a high level, with segmental brick arches at a lower level. The garden gate was originally a doorway in Swallowfield Park House.
