Description

The churchyard wall to the west of the Church of St Michael dates from the late 16th century. It is constructed from unusually large red bricks, measuring approximately 14 inches by 6 inches by 3.5 inches. The wall features buttresses and posts, with a coping made of sloping bricks topped by a raised course. The remains of Place House, a large mansion that stood on the south side of the church tower, were taken down in 1785. The piers and gates on the north side of the wall are of a later date.
