Description

The Varden monument and another are located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary, approximately 26 metres south of the east end of the nave. These are two headstones and two footstones from the late 18th century, made of stone. The left headstone features a carving of a pick and shovel in the center, with a skull on the right side, and is inscribed to John Varden, who died in 1772. The right headstone is adorned with a coronet emitting rays and seraphim underneath, although the inscription has eroded. Both tombs have plain footstones.
