Description
The undercroft in the garden of Hurley Lodge, located about 50 metres north of the house, dates back to the 16th century and was originally part of the former Ladye Place. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has an L-shaped plan consisting of 4 by 2 bays, with part of it underground and the top covered in foliage. A small closet is situated on the south side, at the end opposite to the foot of the L. The main chamber features 4 bays divided by square brick piers, which support groined brick vaults. The south wall contains two three-light square-headed windows with moulded stone mullions and jambs, while the west wall of the projecting wing and the east wall of the closet have similar single-light windows. The entrance is located on the north side, but it is possible that the undercroft originally extended further north in this area. At the time of the last survey, the structure was semi-derelict.
