Description

The Dower House is a late 18th-century house, altered and extended in the late 20th century. It is constructed of painted brick with tile hipped roofs hidden behind a parapet, and designed in a Gothic style. The house has a nearly square plan with extensions to the left and rear, all in a matching style.

The external appearance is characterized by three brick chimneys with clay pots and a mix of original and later windows. Original 18th-century leaded casement windows have pointed-arched heads, while later 20th-century windows feature glazing bars and pointed arched heads. The south-west front, which serves as the entrance front, has five bays. The first floor's central section is distinguished by three two-light casement windows with ogee hoodmoulds above. The ground floor features six-light canted bays with flat roofs on either side of a central half-glazed entrance door. The entrance is protected by an ogee metal-roofed porch supported by columns with leaf capitals and moulded bases, as well as matching pilasters. A recessed bay on the left has a two-light casement window on the first floor and a six-light canted bay on the ground floor, while a set-back bay on the right has an embattled parapet. A three-light leaded window is on the first floor of the right bay, and a plank door with a fanlight containing interlaced glazing and a pointed head is on the ground floor. A small recessed panel sits between the door and the first-floor window. Original leaded windows with pointed heads are also present at the side and rear of the property. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
