Description

Eton College is an outstanding group of buildings surrounding two courtyards, primarily constructed of red brick with Bath stone dressings, and the chapel features ashlar. The main structures were built between 1441 and 1446, including the School Yard and Green Court, College Hall (restored in 1858), the buttery, Lower School, and the Headmaster's chambers, along with the Provost's house and kitchen. The chapel was built between 1449 and 1459 and restored in 1847, 1852, and 1876, featuring 15th-century wall paintings and a modern fan vault. Lupton's tower and chapel, as well as Election Hall, were constructed between 1514 and 1520. The Upper School, headmaster's room, and school office were built between 1689 and 1691, with Sir Christopher Wren as the architect; a four-window section was destroyed by a bomb but has since been rebuilt. The brewhouse and bakehouse were added in 1714, followed by the library and South arcade between 1726 and 1729, and the second storey of Green Court and the drawing room wing of the Provost's house were completed between 1758 and 1766.
