Description
Agars Plough is a hallhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 15th century and has been altered and extended in the late 18th and late 19th centuries. The building features a combination of brick and timber framing encased in brick, with an old tile roof and a slate lean-to roof on the northeast side. It has a rectangular plan consisting of four framed bays, with an 18th-century extension on the northwest and a 19th-century lean-to extension on the northeast. The house is two storeys tall, with a one-storey extension. There is one chimney on the ridge and a large chimney with battered sides on the northeast, both topped with clay pots.
The entrance front has a rendered plinth, brick oversailing, and dentil eaves courses, and it is composed of two bays. The windows are two-light casements, with those on the ground floor featuring segmental brick arches. To the right of the centre, there is a 19th-century four-panelled entrance door, with the top two panels glazed under a segmental brick arch. Inside, much of the timber frame is exposed, showcasing large tension braces in the southeast bay on the first floor, and there is a very large fireplace flanking the middle bays on the northeast. The house was once known as Dutchman's Farmhouse.
