Description
Upton Court is a house dating from around 1370, with a right-hand cross wing added around 1425, a 17th-century cross wing to the left, and extensive alterations and additions made in the late 19th century. The building is timber framed, featuring later rendering and planted timbers, along with later rendered brick additions. It has a hipped old tile roof. Originally, it had an aisled open hall consisting of three framed bays, with a later inserted floor. The cross wing on the right has three framed bays, while the later gabled cross wing on the left has two framed bays and a catslide over an outshot. The house is one storey with attics and two storeys.
On the east front, there are decorated barge boards and an off-centre hipped dormer with diamond leaded casements. The right side has an end stack, while the left has two end stacks and a central ridge stack. There are scattered 19th-century leaded casements. The central porch features a jettied first floor, a first-floor leaded casement, and a glazed door below with a moulded architrave. There are also glazed doors to the left and right, each with moulded four-centered arched surrounds.
Inside, the house has a fine large frame that includes two original arched doorways between the screens passage and the service end, as well as a crown post roof in the right-hand cross wing, braced in four directions with chamfered timbers. Notable fittings include panelling, doors, and stained glass dated 1667.
