Description
74 Upton Road is a house, now converted into flats, dating from the early 18th century with later remodelling. The building is constructed of rendered brick and features a slate roof. It has two storeys and an attic, with a plinth, plat band, and a moulded cornice that once had a balustraded parapet above. There are two hipped dormers with two-light casements and paired end stacks. The façade consists of five bays with glazing bar sashes that have exposed boxes. The central entrance features a half-glazed door with a rectangular overlight, flanking pilasters, and a 20th-century flat bracketed porch. There is also a 20th-century half-glazed door in the first bay from the right.
Inside, the ground floor front room to the left contains early 18th-century panelling, two arched niches flanking the fireplace, and a richly detailed early 18th-century panelled plaster ceiling adorned with shells at the corners, intricate tendril-like foliage, and a central circular panel with a moulded rose. The front door retains some early 18th-century internal ironwork.
