Description

Mistress Pages House is an early 19th century commercial building, dating from around 1830 to 1840. It has been entirely rebuilt behind the front but still has a late 18th century house adjoining it at the rear. The front of the building is two storeys high, finished in painted stucco, featuring two very large windows flanking a tall central glazed door that leads to the first floor. There is a small bracketed cornice and a parapet with a pierced cast iron balustrade panel in the center. The early 19th century shop front projects from the ground floor, with a similar cast iron balcony above, adorned with pierced anthemion balusters that have floral heads and bases, and circular bars in between.

At the rear, linked by a tiled roof covered way, is a building from the 17th or 18th century, which is two storeys high with an attic. This structure is made of red brick, with the south side rendered and featuring a central gable. It has two windows on each gable end, with flush architrave framed sashes and flat gauged arches above, along with irregular casements on the south side. Mistress Pages House and the adjacent properties, Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive), 4a, 5 to 9 (consecutive), 9A, and 10 to 25 (consecutive), along with the garden pavilion of No 7, form a cohesive group.
