Description
The dovecote, now disused, is a medieval structure located about 9 metres south of The Tithe Barn in Hurley. It is built from chalk and flint, with later brickwork, and features an old tile conical roof that has an open dormer above the eaves and an open turret at the top. The building is supported by four buttresses, each with two offsets and a brick base. There is a small plank entrance door on the east side, which has a stone lintel and a pointed relieving arch, accessed by six stone rubble steps.
Inside, a revolving ladder from a central newel post provides access to nesting boxes that are nearly continuous along the walls. This dovecote originally belonged to Hurley Priory and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
