Description
No 21 on Newbury Street is an 18th-century house that stands two storeys tall. It is constructed from vitreous brick, featuring a red brick plinth and vertical lines that frame the openings. The first floor windows are highlighted by a flat rendered band, and the building has a brick parapet topped with stone coping. The roof is covered with old tiles and has flanking chimneys. The facade is asymmetrical, with vertical sliding sash windows that have glazing bars, near flush frames, and cambered heads. The centre of the facade projects slightly and includes two windows on the left, two narrow windows flanking a painted blade window in the centre, and one window on the right. The left portion of the house has a hipped roof and eaves. The entrance features a six-panelled central door with an enriched architrave, set within a doorcase that has two engaged columns topped with an entablature, cornice, and pediment. The frieze includes honeysuckle ornamentation, and there is leaf ornament on the necking of the columns, with a fan design in the tympanum of the pediment.
