Description
28 Bartholomew Street is a mid-18th century town house that stands two storeys tall and features a double front with five windows. The building has a hipped slate roof and is constructed from red brick with stone dressings. It is adorned with a moulded cornice and a coped parapet, along with a string course at the first-floor level. The windows are architraved sash windows with glazing bars. The entrance showcases a good doorcase with panelled pilasters and enriched console-brackets that support a pediment. The doorway is architraved and includes an elliptical decorated fanlight above a raised and fielded panel door.
At the rear, there is a late 18th-century south-west wing that has a hipped tile roof. Inside, the house features a good dog-leg staircase (renewed) with dado panelling, turned balusters, fluted column newels, and a moulded handrail. The hall displays an early 19th-century decorated plaster cornice. On the first floor, two rooms contain 18th-century painted panelling, while another room on the north side features some re-used and painted early 17th-century oak panelling. In the south-west first-floor room, there is a late 18th-century 'Adam' marble fireplace and a painted plaster ceiling and frieze.
