Description
The North-East Lodges and Gates to Aldermaston Court are two lodges with gates situated on the south side of The Street in Aldermaston, dating back to around 1636. These lodges are constructed of red brick and feature plinths, moulded string courses, and parapets with shaped gables on the north side, each having a recessed square panel. They have old tile roofs with ridge stacks at the rear. Each lodge has a recessed 8-light leaded mullioned and transomed window on both floors facing north, with entrances on the sides that include 4-panelled doors.
The gates and piers, added in the early 18th century, consist of two rusticated brick piers with stone plinths and copings topped with ball finials. The gates are made of exuberant wrought iron and include an overthrow. Originally, the lodges were part of a U-plan house, but the central section has since been removed. The wrought iron gates were relocated from Midgham House in the early 19th century.
