Description
B and C Houses at Bradfield College are dormitories and classrooms built in 1897. The structure features flint with red brick and stone dressings, lacing courses, diaper work, and a large chamfered plinth. The old tile roof is slightly raised to the left and half hipped on that side, topped with a small tile-hung gablet. There are three ridge stacks: one in the center, one off-center to the left, one off-center to the right, and an end stack to the right, along with a stack in front of the ridge to the far left, all having oversailing tops.
The building has 13 gabled semi-dormers, which are tile-hung and contain 2-light leaded casements. Notably, the third dormer from the left features a parapet and a 6-light mullioned and transomed window, the fifth dormer has an arched boarded door, and the rightmost dormer includes a rose window with four circular lights. A tile-hung gabled eaves dormer is located to the far right, with a 2-light leaded casement and two hipped louvred dormers flanking the central ridge stack.
The building is situated on a slope, presenting 1½ storeys at the front and 2½ storeys at the rear. To the right, there are two 3-cusped arched light Gothic windows, while to the left, there are eight windows, with those on the far left at street level. An off-center 4-centered arched boarded door is located beneath the third semi-dormer from the left. A large 8-light diamond leaded mullioned and transomed window is situated in the gable end to the southwest.
In the right-hand block, there are three large gabled semi-dormers; the two on the right have 4-cusped light windows with quatrefoils in plate tracery above each, while the left dormer features a 3-cusped light window with a quatrefoil in the gable end above. Additionally, there is a one-storey and basement window, a 2-light window between the first and second semi-dormers from the left, and a 5-light basement beneath the left-hand semi-dormer.
