Description
Guyers Bridge and Lock is an accommodation bridge and integral lock located on the Kennet & Avon Canal. It was built in the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The bridge follows John Rennie's standard design and features a brick structure with a single elliptical arch, a band, a solid parapet, and piers, all topped with brick and stone coping. The lock has brick walls on the west side and a brick chamber with brick coping. It includes two sets of double wooden gates, with the top gates equipped with mechanical gate paddle gearing and the bottom gates featuring hydraulic gate paddle gearing. The Kennet & Avon Canal was constructed between 1794 and 1810, with John Rennie serving as the principal engineer.
