Description

Wrights Farm House is a Grade II* listed farmhouse that has been converted into two houses and a post office. It dates back to the 14th century, with a 19th-century front. The eastern facade features a brick front, while the northern side is timber-framed with rendered infill, and the western side has flint and brick dressings. The house has a tiled roof with a half hip on the north side, ridge chimneys on the southern flank, and one bay extending from the north. It stands two storeys tall.

On the eastern front, there are wide glazing bar sashes flanking a door that is set under a gabled porch, with a narrow sash window above. To the right, there are two more sash windows, one of which is blocked on the first floor. A catslide roof on the western side reveals the head of a four-light window with cusped tops to the lights, located under the eaves. The northern wall has a large cruck frame that is exposed.

Inside, there are five bays of crucks; the two southern bays are clean, while the three central bays are sooted, and the purlins are chamfered and stopped with arch braces supporting the central collar ties. The northern bay is longer and also sooted, with all bays featuring large curved windbraces below the purlins. Although the ground and first floors appear to be 19th-century, the cruck frames extend down to ground level, indicating that some of the early infill walls remain. The chimney at the southern end of the northern bay contains 16th-century brickwork, while the extreme southern end of the roof is from the 19th and 20th centuries.
