Description
The Director Generals' Building at the former Ordnance Survey Offices, dating from around 1840, is likely to have been the Governor's House. This corner building features three storeys and a semi-basement. The elevation facing Rockstone Place has three windows, while the Avenue side has four windows. It is adorned with end pilasters that extend the full height of the structure and a dentilled cornice. The windows are sash style, preserving their glazing bars. The ground floor windows are round-headed with arched recessed heads, featuring stuccoed fan decorations in the tympana. There is a central round-headed keyed door opening, framed by a stone doorcase with a shallow moulded cornice hood supported by brackets and pilasters. The central section, which includes the doorway and middle windows, projects slightly forward.
