Description

No 8 is an early 19th-century building located in St Michael's Square. It is three storeys high, constructed of red brick with grey headers. The roof is concealed by a parapet with stone coping, and there is a brick dentil cornice. The building features two sashes without glazing bars and has a modern shop-front. Beneath No 8 is a vault, likely dating from around 1400. This vault is elliptical in shape and made of ashlar, with a course of fine ashlar at the springing level. There is also a rectangular projection in the north-east angle of the undercroft, which probably housed a garderobe shaft from the floor above.
