Description
The Fish House, located to the west of Salmon Pool, is a building dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish garden wall bond, with some blue headers, and features a hipped roof covered in clay plain tiles. The building has a small rectangular plan and is two stories tall.
The north-east elevation, which faces Salmon Pool, is mostly blank except for a doorway on the right that has a brick cambered arch and a 20th-century door. The south-west elevation, facing the road, has a central doorway with a 20th-century door, flanked by two small blocked windows with brick cambered arches, and a central first-floor doorway that is boarded over.
Inside, the chimney-breast has been removed, and the space is unceiled. The ceiling beams have hooks for hanging tackle or fish. The Fish House is situated on the west side of Salmon Pool, which was created from the River Itchen, and it is part of the grounds of South Stoneham House.
