Description
Christ Church, Portswood, is a parish church built between 1846 and 1847 by architects J. A. and R. Brandon. A wide north aisle was added in 1855 by Elliott and Mason, and the eastern part was reconstructed in 1878 by Colston. Further extensions to the west were made by J. Oldrid Scott and Son in 1915. The church is constructed of coursed rubble and features a tiled roof. It consists of a nave and chancel, separated by a southeast tower that has buttresses and a broached shingled spire. The building includes a clerestory with quatrefoil-headed lights, traceried windows, north and south aisles, and a north porch.
