Description

27 and 28 Market Place is an early 17th century building, possibly older, that stands three storeys high with an attic. It features a double jettied timber-frame structure with stucco infilling that is pebbledashed. The building has a tiled roof with a crested ridge and an ornamental cast iron gutter along the eaves. The second floor has a moulded jetty, and there are two dormers. Each floor includes two original bay windows with mullion windows, showcasing decorative lead work in the upper parts of the windows. The ground floor retains an 18th century shop front with a coved fascia and engaged columns. The outer doors consist of five panels that are raised and fielded, with a plain overlight to the right and a modern door to the left leading to No 29. Inside, the first floor ceilings are divided into panels by moulded strips.
