Description
The Screens House is a building from around 1870, located at Blakes Lock Sewage Pumping Station on Gasworks Road. It features red brick walls with grey brick patterning and dressings, along with cast iron small port windows and a red tile roof. The building has a simple rectangular shape and was originally used to house filters for sewage. Its detailing is similar to that of the Engine House but is less elaborate. On the south elevation, which faces the River Kennet, there are round-headed lancet windows on either side, flanking three full-height doorways that are separated by narrow brick piers. These doorways are fitted with boarded doors, with the outer ones being double-leaf and the center one being single. The roof is hipped to the right and left at the ridge and features a large timber louver topped with a pyramidal slated roof and a turned finial.
