Description

Numbers 13-18 on King's Terrace in Southsea are a group of three houses, originally part of a terrace, built around 1810 and now used as offices. Numbers 17 and 18 were rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The buildings are constructed of yellow stock brick in Flemish bond. Numbers 13 and 14 have a Welsh slate roof with a brick stack on the right, while Numbers 15 and 16 feature an artificial slate roof from the 20th century that is concealed.

The exterior consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement for Numbers 13/14, 15/16, and 17/18. The façade has seven bays arranged in a 2:3:2 pattern, with Numbers 15 and 16 slightly projecting in the centre. A set of five stone steps leads up to the entrances: a six-panelled door for Numbers 13/14, a four-moulded panelled door for Numbers 15/16, and a six-panelled moulded and fielded door for Numbers 17/18, each topped with a fanlight and set under a gauged brick arch.

To the right of Numbers 13/14 and to the left of Numbers 17/18 is one round-headed two-leaf four-pane casement, while there are two such casements to the right of Numbers 15/16. Each casement features margin glazing and ornate radial glazing at the head, all set under gauged brick round arches. The doors and windows are located within a recessed arcade.

Attached iron railings with a linked circle band are present at the area in front of Numbers 13/14 and 15/16. A sillband at the first floor has seven 12-pane sash windows arranged in a 2:3:2 pattern, each under a flat rendered arch. The second floor features a sillband with seven unequal sashes: Numbers 15/16 have six panes, and Numbers 17/18 have nine panes, all set under similar flat rendered arches.

The buildings have a paired brick dentil course, a moulded stone cornice, and a coped parapet. Numbers 15/16 also have a facing brick dentilled pediment with a stone cornice and a ball finial. There is a small dormer on Numbers 13/14 and 15/16, with the dormer on 13/14 having a round head. The interior has not been inspected.
