Description

A terrace of five houses, numbers 2 to 10 Sussex Road, was built between 1837 and 1840 by Thomas Ellis Owen. The houses are stuccoed with Welsh slate roofs, except for number 10, which has an interlocking tiled hipped roof. Each house has a rendered stack to the right, and number 2 has a slate-clad stack to the left. They are three storeys high, with two bays each. The ground floor has horizontal rustication. Numbers 2 to 6 have a moulded panelled front door with a fanlight, approached by five stone steps with flanking coped balustrades and end piers. Numbers 8 to 10 have a 20th-century door with fanlight set within a recessed surround, and are accessed by eight stone steps. Number 10 has a projecting wing with a 16-pane sash window. The first floor windows include 12-pane and 18-pane sashes, and number 6 features a 20th-century balcony with iron brackets and balustrade. The second floor has tripartite sashes with central 6-pane sashes. A band runs over the first floor. The right return (to number 10) has sash windows on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
