Description

Number 49 and Kent Lodge are two houses that have been converted into offices, built in 1843 by T.E. Owen. The buildings are finished in stucco and feature a low-pitched hipped roof made of Welsh slate, with two rendered chimney stacks located at the center of the west-facing entrance elevation. Number 49 has three bays and stands three storeys tall, with a basement, while Kent Lodge also has three storeys.

The west elevation features a central entrance door with four flush panels and a fanlight, set back behind a round-arched opening supported by heavy, elaborate console brackets. On either side of the entrance are 12-pane sash windows, each positioned under a slightly cambered arch. The first floor has three 16-pane sash windows, also under slightly cambered arches with a sillband. The second floor contains three 8-pane sash windows, flanked by wide pilasters and featuring a moulded sillband. The eaves are moulded wood with paired shaped brackets.

On the left side of the building, there are small random sashes and a 20th-century fire escape and door. The right side has a rectangular bay on the left that extends to the first floor, featuring central tripartite sashes divided by pilasters, along with a fascia and cornice. There is a similar bay on the right, but it has a metal tented roof. Between the bays are 12-pane sashes, and on the second floor, there are three 8-pane sashes.

The entrance elevation to Kent Lodge, which is accessed from Queens Crescent, is similar to that of Number 49, except that the sashes on the ground and first floors do not have glazing bars.
