Description

A terrace of eleven houses built around 1840, located on the north side of Gloucester View in Southsea, Portsmouth. The houses are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern. Number one has a low-pitched slate roof; the roofs of the other houses are concealed. Stone stacks are located centrally on number one, to the left of number two, centrally on number three, between numbers seven and eight, between numbers eight and nine, between numbers nine and ten, and to the right of number eleven.

Each house is two storeys high with a basement, and has a single bay. Nos 9 and 11 have 20th-century attic additions. To the left of each house, numbers 1 to 6 have three stone steps, and numbers 7 to 11 have four stone steps, all with flanking railings leading to a six-panelled door with a fanlight above, set within an elliptical gauged brick arch with moulded imposts. Each house has an eighteen-pane sash window to the right, with a margin-glazed basement window and attached railings which are either plain or feature scrolled spearheads sitting on a low stone wall. A stone-capped brick dentil band runs around the houses, and a stone coped parapet tops the façades. Nos 9 and 11 each have a 20th-century dormer window. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
