Description
The Platt Monument, located approximately 5 meters north of the chancel of the Church of St Peter and St Paul, is a chest tomb dating from around 1824. It is constructed from ashlar and features a podium with splayed and sloping fluted corners, a frieze, and an ovolo moulded cap. Each corner of the monument displays a relief of a cat's head on the frieze and a sea shell relief at the base. The base is roll moulded and set on a projecting plinth, with a weathered lid that is set back from each side of the cap. The die of the tomb has a raised panel inscribed with "Sacred to the memory of Mrs Anne Platt of Kings Terrace Southsea. obit. 1st of August 1824, etat 73 years." Originally, the monument was enclosed by an iron railing. The plinth has some random broken stones and is partially covered with ivy growth.
