Description
23 and 25 Great Southsea Street are two houses built around 1830-1840. They are constructed from buff bricks in Flemish bond and feature a Welsh slate roof with a brick stack on the right. The buildings are two storeys high with a basement and have three bays.
At the center, there are paired doors with moulded lower panels and margin glazed upper panels, set within a tall entrance that includes flanking reeded pilasters, a panelled frieze, and a rectangular margin glazed overlight, along with a frieze and dentil cornice. On either side of the entrance, above the basement windows, are shallow tripartite oriel windows. These windows have a central sash with 16 panes and narrow flanking sashes with 4 panes, divided by reeded pilasters. There is a reeded band at the frieze and cornice above, with a dentilled cornice specifically over No. 25. Each window has a panelled apron below it.
On the first floor, there are three paired 8-pane sashes set beneath flat rendered arches. Above these, there is a brick dentil band and a coped parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
