Description

The property at 11 Hampshire Terrace, Southsea, is a house built as part of a terrace around 1820 to 1830. It is now used as solicitors' offices. The house is constructed of painted brick, with a concealed roof and a brick stack on the right-hand side. It has three main floors, a basement, and an attic, with one wide bay.

A seven-step approach leads to a front door consisting of four panels, surmounted by a fanlight and set within a round-arched opening with moulded detail. To the right of the entrance is a two-storey canted bay window, covering the ground and first floors. The ground floor of the bay has original sash windows in the centre and flanking sides. The first floor has a four-pane centre sash flanked by narrower sashes, with thin panelled pilasters separating the panes. Brackets with pendants support the cornice on the first floor, and there are panelled aprons beneath the windows. The second floor features a four-pane sash set beneath a rendered flat arch, with a brick dentil course and a coped parapet above. Twentieth-century dormers have been added to the roof. The basement has a margin-glazed sash window. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
