Description

The pair of houses at 11 and 13 Grove Road South, Southsea, were built in 1851. They are constructed of yellow stock bricks in a Flemish bond pattern, with a Welsh slate hipped roof and brick stacks located to the left, centre, and right of the building. The houses are two storeys high with a basement, and feature six bays. A set of five stone steps leads to a moulded panelled front door, recessed within the second bay from the left, and protected by a flat gauged brick arch. To the left of this door is a single four-pane sash window, and to the right are four similar windows, all set within gauged brick arches. The first floor has six matching sash windows. On the return facing Queens Crescent, there is a single-storey flat-roofed entrance porch with a round-arched brick opening. This porch contains a recessed four-panelled door with architrave, a brick dentil bead cornice, and a stone coped parapet. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected. The buildings were commissioned by Thomas Ellis Owen, as part of his development of Southsea.
