Description

No. 2 Nelson Road is a villa built around 1860, likely designed by T.E. Owen. The building features a roughcast exterior and a Welsh slate roof, with rendered stacks on either side of the right front-facing gable.

It stands two storeys tall and has six bays arranged in an asymmetrical pattern. On the left side, there is a two-leaf, four-pane casement window on the first floor, each set beneath a flat rendered arch with a rusticated surround. To the right, a one-storey porch has a plain tiled gabled hood and open shaped bargeboards, which are set on the face of a projecting square tower. The entrance features a recessed four-pane glazed door topped by a three-centred arched fanlight, all within an archway with a rendered architrave.

On the first floor of the tower, there is a nine-pane casement window with Y tracery glazing, set under a pointed arch, with a moulded cornice band and a crenellated parapet above. To the right of the tower, there is another two-leaf, four-pane casement window on the first floor, also within a rusticated rendered surround, with a drip label above. The facing gable has shaped open bargeboards.

Further to the right is a three-sided tower with a splayed right side. On the first floor of this splay, there is a six-pane casement window with tracery glazing under a pointed arch. The right side of the tower features two narrow pointed windows, each with eight panes, set under a facing gable with open shaped bargeboards.

Both the left and right returns of the building have similar facing gables. The left return includes a one-storey canted bay with two long margin-glazed casements, a moulded band, and a crenellated parapet. On the first floor, there is a two-pane casement window within a rusticated rendered surround, complete with drip labels. The interior has not been inspected.
