Description
St James's Vicarage dates from 1857-59 and was designed by G. E. Street. It is a two-storey red brick building with a slate roof and an irregular mansard attic. A gable end is visible on the west front, featuring a projecting chimney with tumbled brick. A lean-to roof shelters a three-light mullioned and transomed window which illuminates the staircase. The south front has two windows on each side, of uneven sizes, with a continuous moulded cill course. The windows have plate glass sashes with cambered heads and shouldered corners. The east front features three windows with gables under segmental arches, and a two-storey three-light bay with a mansard to the left. A central, rectangular four-light bay is present on the ground floor. A moulded string course runs below the first-floor windows.
