Description
St James' School and Church Hall, built in 1858 and designed by architect G. E. Street, is a Gothic-style building made of stone with a slate roof and a crested ridge. The plan consists of two interlocked 'T' shapes, with the Church Hall extending to the west. At the intersection of the two sections, there is a slate-covered bellcote located at the north end. The building is one storey high and features coped gables with plate tracery. On the eastern side, there is a gabled end with three intermediate gables and three projecting gabled porches. A tall chimney with a stiff leaf cap is situated at the north end. The west front is similarly gabled and includes a large gabled porch. The north front of the Church Hall has six bays with windows arranged in various groupings and four louvres in the roof. A later brick range is located to the southeast of these buildings but is not included in the listing. St James' School and Church Hall are recognized as a group.
