Description
The Clock Tower at Filgrave Church of England First School is a Grade II listed building, constructed in 1938 to commemorate the Coronation of George VI. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the tower is square and made of brick with stone bands. It features battered sides and diminishes in stages. The ground floor has a stepped semi-circular arched opening and a plaque on the interior wall. The high second stage includes a clock facing the road, with an arrowslit above it. The third stage has an open arch for the bell facing the road, with clock faces on the sides. The fourth stage contains arched openings for the bells on the sides. At the top, there is a small hipped roof covered in pantiles, topped with a copper acorn finial.
