Description
No 1 Market Place is an 18th-century building that has been altered. It is constructed of stone, rendered and painted, and features an old tiled roof with a coped gable and a shaped kneeler on the north side. There is a brick stack and a flat-topped dormer with sash windows and a moulded wood cornice. The building has two storeys and an attic.
The ground floor has a shop front with a central door and shop windows set on a panelled stall riser, featuring slender glazing bars and an entablature above. On the first floor, there are two sash windows, which are 19th-century sashes set within architrave surrounds that include keyblocks.
On the right-hand flank elevation, there is an archway that contains an 18th-century six-panel door within a wooden doorcase. This doorcase is adorned with pilasters and scrolls that support a triangular pediment, all featuring curved ornamentation.
