Description
The chapel to the north of Bradwell Abbey House is a former chapel dating from the 14th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and features an old tile roof. The west elevation includes a central doorway with a moulded 14th-century door arch, situated below a three-light window that has cusped reticulated tracery and a hoodmould. There are short diagonal buttresses at each corner. On the south wall, there is a small 14th-century doorway and a two-light square-headed window with cusped lights and a hoodmould to the right, along with a row of six quatrefoil traceried panels to the left, positioned below the eaves. Inside, there are notable wall paintings dating from around 1330 to 1340, which have been restored. Historically, the chapel was originally attached to the west wall of the church of the Priory founded in 1155. It is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
