Description

1 Gayhurst Court Mews, known as The Dovecote, is a former dovecot that has been converted into a house, along with attached gate piers. The dovecot dates back to the 17th century and has been altered. It is constructed of stone and features a tiled roof, with a square plan and four gables. At the center, there is a wooden cupola topped with an ogee lead dome and a finial. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a string course at the base of the gables and at the first-floor level. Each gable is adorned with a four-light wooden mullioned and transomed window, which has a flat stone arch above it. Although the interior has been altered, some nesting boxes remain exposed. There are modern wings added to the southeast and southwest, which are not of interest. The gate piers are attached to the northwest corner by a high stone wall and date from the 18th century. These square stone piers have a moulded cornice and modern lamps.
