Description
This is a Type 28 pillbox, also known as a gun-house, built in 1940 as part of the anti-invasion defences of the Hoo Stop Line during the Second World War. It is made of reinforced concrete with yellow stock brick shuttering.
The structure is rectangular and designed to accommodate a single two or six-pounder quick-firing gun, featuring a pair of large rectangular embrasures for the gun and smaller infantry embrasures. The concrete roof has a chamfered edge and is topped with a late 20th century timber trellis and balustrade. The original blast wall that protected the large entrance has been removed, and the emplacement has since been converted into a shed.
