Description

Type 28 pillbox or gun-house, built in 1940 as part of the anti-invasion defences of the Hoo Stop Line.

MATERIALS: reinforced concrete with yellow stock brick shuttering.

DESCRIPTION: a rectangular anti-tank gun pillbox (also known as a gun-house) of type 28 design with a pair of large rectangular embrasures to house a single two or six-pounder quick-firing gun, supported by smaller infantry embrasures. The concrete roof has a chamfered edge with a late-C20 timber trellis and balustrade on top. The blast wall which would have originally protected the large entrance has been removed. The emplacement was later converted into a shed.
