Description
The Chequer's Public House is a house that has been converted into a public house, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It features a distinctive red and blue brick chequer pattern and a plain tiled gambrel roof. The building stands two storeys high with an attic, resting on a brick plinth. It has flat-headed dormers and half-projecting brick end stacks. The front of the building has a regular arrangement of three windows, with glazing bar sashes in open boxes on the first floor, while the ground floor has 19th-century casements with gauged segment heads. The entrance is marked by central half-glazed double doors topped with a late 19th-century tented hood supported by a large bracket. There are also 19th-century single-storey extensions to the left of the main structure.
