Description
This Type 24 pillbox, built in 1940, is located east of Hoo St Werburgh and was part of the anti-invasion defences of the Hoo Stop Line. Constructed from reinforced concrete with yellow stock brick shuttering, it has an irregular hexagonal shape typical of the thick-walled Type 24 design. Notably, there is no brickwork above the five recessed light machine gun embrasures, a feature unique to this section of the GHQ Line, likely due to the specifications of an individual contractor. The longer rear wall includes a low entrance that is flanked by two additional loopholes. Inside, there is a concrete, Y-shaped anti-ricochet wall positioned in the center of the pillbox.
