Description

Type 24 pillbox, built in 1940 as part of the anti-invasion defences of the Hoo Stop Line.

MATERIALS: reinforced concrete with yellow stock brick shuttering.

DESCRIPTION: an irregular hexagon plan infantry pillbox of thick-walled type 24 design. It displays the lack of brickwork above the five recessed light machine gun embrasures which is a feature unique to this particular part of the GHQ Line, presumably particular to an individual contractor. The longer rear wall has a low entrance flanked by a pair of additional loopholes. Internally, there is a concrete, Y-shaped, anti-ricochet wall in the centre of the pillbox.
