Description
This is a 12th and 15th-century gateway, forming an entrance to the cloister from the precinct. It is constructed of coursed ragstone. The archway is quoined and topped with battlements, the merlons being coped. Sections of the side walls remain. On the cloister side, there are remnants of a Norman room with triple shafts in the corners, although the vault is missing. This room may have been the undercroft of the cellarer’s lodging.
