Description
No. 20 Gun Lane is a former charnel house associated with St Nicholas graveyard, dated 1856. The building features red brick and ragstone rubble with a Welsh slate hipped roof, showcasing an Italianate style. It stands two storeys high facing the former churchyard and single storey towards Gun Lane. The ground floor towards the churchyard has a rubble plinth with brick dressings. The roadside elevation includes three blank recessed panelled bays with pilasters and a recessed round-headed entrance that has raised and fielded panel doors. The south return displays a date plaque, while the north side has an end stack with a double shaft. The churchyard elevation features four round-headed windows on the first floor, which were boarded up at the time of re-survey in February 1989, along with a central entrance flanked by tall windows, all set under round-headed arches.
